Introduction Bangor is located in the Acadia region of Maine, along the west bank of the Penobscot River. Acadia region which extends on the east coast from Penobscot Bay to Schoodic Point is one of the most popular and scenic destinations in the country for summer visitors with mountains, lakes and streams. Also known as the Queen City of Maine, Bangor is the third largest city in the state. It is the commercial, financial, and cultural center of the eastern and northern regions of the state. Maine was the former world capital of timber industry and today it is the center for modern shopping malls, outlet centers, and industrial parks. Two of the latest editions of Macmillan's Places Rated Almanac rated Bangor as the best North American metropolitan area with a population of less than 100,000 people.
